Tarzana Treatment Centers College is Open for Enrollment

Led by Dr. James B. Golden, Psy.D. as Chief Academic Officer and Dr. José C. Salazar, Ph.D., who will serve as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, TTCC has a dedicated leadership team. Based in Southern California with the main campus in Woodland Hills, TTCC embraces teleservices and online teaching to expand access to its educational offerings. As an integral part of Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC), the goal of the college is to increase the pool of well-trained and culturally informed substance use disorder counselors.

Although TTCC began in 2021 with the in-house training of TTC employees, everything changed in 2022 when the doors swung open to the public. Now taking students, both in-person and online, from a wide array of communities, TTCC is experiencing the realization of its core mission. With a six-month completion program and integrated field experience, the first graduating class is already in action, providing help where help is genuinely needed.

Tarzana Treatment Centers College and Experiential SUD Education

With an immersive program of educational and training opportunities, the TTCC curriculum focuses on experiential SUD education. Therefore, each cohort of students works together to learn the essential training and grow by sharing their own experiences. By combining the latest training and state requirements with experiential learning, TTCC helps students develop on a multitude of levels. Moreover, TTCC takes advantage of remote learning advances with an online interactive component. Thus, the products of the program are multi-dimensional.

TTCC’s curriculum has been accredited by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) and the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP). As a state-accredited learning and education division of Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc., Tarzana Treatment Centers College is approved to operate by the California State Bureau for Private Post-Secondary Education. Indeed, TTCC reflects the highest standards in SUD education.

A Full Spectrum of SUD Course and Hands-On Experience

With a full spectrum of SUD courses, including monthly student symposiums with top experts in the field, Tarzana Treatment Centers College offers a real opportunity to start a new career in SUD counseling. The college incorporates virtual reality substance use disorder and mental health modules at the forefront of technology. Each of these approaches helps enhance students’ learning experience in the program. Hence, flexible tutors and guidance counselors, both in-person and online, are ready to help.

TTCC’s program includes a four-month practicum experience. In this context, students can demonstrate their SUD counseling competencies. At the same time, they are closely monitored by treatment professionals with extensive clinical supervisor-level experience. Beyond the classroom, such practice in treatment settings is a valuable addition. Thus, students can put their skills to work in a treatment setting.

Most essentially, the TTCC SUD Counseling Certification Program allows students from intersectional backgrounds to access valuable educational opportunities. Hence, they will be able to gain the SUD counseling and treatment skills needed to help underserved locales. Indeed, TTCC addresses gaps in patient access to treatment by connecting graduates to marginalized communities. In these communities, there is a demand for treatment services.

Diverse Learning Opportunities for SUD Counselors in Specific Communities

During the pandemic, the 6-month, self-paced program functions primarily online, with students attending live symposiums 1-2 times a month. Moreover, students have access to virtual reality simulations. Offering direct access, students still complete internships at TTC locations.
