Joint Commission Gold Seal

Behavioral Health Home Certification

The Joint Commission has awarded Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) with certification as a Behavioral Health Home. TTC sought this new certification as soon as it was made available because the Joint Commissions Behavioral Health Home standards are consistent with the vision of integrated behavioral healthcare that TTC has been pursuing since 1995. The rigorous four-day site survey conducted by the team from the Joint Commission further validates the quality of our services for you, our clients and referring partners.

The Joint Commission defines Behavioral Health Homes as “responsible for the integration and coordination of the individual’s health care (physical as well as behavioral health care services). Health home providers … must ensure that the full array of primary and behavioral health care services is available, integrated and coordinated. The optional certification goes above and beyond what is required for accreditation and provides additional recognition for these services.”

TTC operates five primary care medical clinics (two of which also provide medical care for HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C) that are thoroughly integrated with our mental health and substance use disorder services. This means that when an individual comes to TTC seeking behavioral health care services, they can be certain that TTC staff will assess for and include in the treatment plan the other chronic medical conditions that a patient may have. For patients who have an existing primary care provider TTC staff will coordinate with the provider to assure continuity of care. If a patient lacks a current primary care provider, TTC primary care providers can address the patient’s physical health needs.

This focus on whole person care pays dividends for the patients we treat and contributes to the reduction in the total cost care. For example, patients with serious behavioral health conditions are much more likely to be admitted to hospitals via the emergency department or to be readmitted within 30 days of discharge. TTC’s attention to integrated care can reduce the likelihood of hospital admission / readmission.

TTC is proud to be recognized by The Joint Commission with the Behavioral Health Home certification. We have worked many years to build what is turning out to be a unique and effective health care organization. The services we provide are meant to treat our clients as a whole person, as opposed to treating an ailment, disorder, or condition. As we go forward into the years ahead, we will continue to provide these services with a commitment to high quality and cost-effectiveness.
