Methadone Treatment Center

by James Heller 22. January 2013 15:29
Methadone is an opioid most-commonly associated with heroin addiction treatment.  It can be used for medical detoxification and as a harm reduction tool with Methadone Maintenance.  In either case, it is important that Methadone be administered by a medical professional at a treatment center or clinic.

Tarzana Treatment Centers has been providing Methadone in opiate detox treatment for decades, and we later added Maintenance as a service.  Patients in our medical detoxification units are closely monitored by medical staff to ensure their safety.  And our Methadone Maintenance program includes addiction counseling.  Our goal is to lead you to a life free from all opiates.

Heroin and prescription drug addiction are difficult to overcome.  The sad fact is that most opiate addicts that complete treatment will relapse several times, and they may never achieve long-term abstinence.  While they are high, there is always a chance that harm will come to them or their loved ones.  So the important task is to help them to live without the high.

Methadone can do this by reducing the cravings associated with opiate addiction.  It provides addicts with a “narcotic replacement” that does not include the high.  Methadone can remain in the body for up to 60 hours, so clients receive doses at the treatment center daily or every two days.  It’s because of the long half-life that doses need to be monitored.  Methadone overdoses occur when clients take a second dose, thinking the first has cleared because they don’t feel a high, and can be fatal.

When abstinence is the goal, the first course of action should be medical detoxification followed by residential or outpatient treatment.  Some addicts will remain clean after one treatment episode.  Others may need two or three.  The discovery has not yet been made where one can tell who will relapse before treatment begins.  A few attempts are made with opiate detox before looking at Maintenance as an option.

We ensure the safety of our detox and Maintenance patients by monitoring their health and by providing a roadmap to long-term abstinence.  We work to move clients from Maintenance to detox when they are ready.  Methadone treatment is covered by most insurance plans, and you may qualify for Medi-Cal, Medicare, or one of our other publicly funded programs.  We want to see everybody recover.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles provides a full array of health care services including adult and youth alcohol and drug treatment.  We specialize in treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, and have two primary medical care clinics in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley and specialized services for HIV/AIDS care.  If you or a loved one needs help with alcohol dependencedrug addiction, or co-occurring mental health disorders or from other services we offer, please call us now at 888-777-8565 or contact us using our secure contact form.

Vivitrol - We Have You Covered

by James Heller 22. June 2012 07:37
When life and financial situations take a turn for the worst, most people do what they can to support themselves until they can get back on their feet.  Others don’t have much of a personal safety net and enroll in public assistance programs.  Some turn to alcohol or drugs as an escape and become dependent.  In these cases, addiction can make for a long road back to a normal life.

Two factors that keep alcoholics and heroin addicts from achieving long-term recovery are money and cravings.  They think they can’t afford treatment, so they don’t bother calling a facility.  If they do get into treatment and complete medical detoxification, they may relapse shortly thereafter because the cravings are so powerful.  Many of these individuals give up if a loved one doesn’t inform them of the options that are available.

Tarzana Treatment Centers has solutions for both barriers to recovery.  It is likely that you qualify for public assistance if you are out of work and can’t afford treatment.  We can get you started with detox right away under low-cost and no-cost public contracts.  Alcohol and drug treatment is covered by Cal-WORKs and Medicare, along with several other programs.  The goal of these programs is to help you get clean and sober so you can get back on your feet.

Since cravings may cause relapse, we also encourage the use of Vivitrol for qualified patients.  Vivitrol blocks receptors in the brain to reduce alcohol and opiate cravings, and works for 30 days with one injection.  We have low-cost and no-cost treatment contracts for Vivitrol, and can get you started when you are ready to discharge from detox.

If you are using alcohol or drugs, and are suffering some tough financial times, the only guarantee is that things will get worse.  Today is the day to get started, and Tarzana Treatment Centers has you covered.

Medicare Covers Alcohol and Drug Treatment

by James Heller 11. June 2012 15:01
Medicare covers much more than basic medical care, which is probably not a big surprise to anyone.  What may be news is that mental health treatment and alcohol and drug treatment are covered.  This is important to know because an increasing number of seniors are in need of these services, and Tarzana Treatment Centers provides all of them.

Senior alcohol and drug abuse can begin with anxiety, depression, physical pain, and even social factors like loneliness or boredom.  One may begin drinking earlier in the day, which can progress until cocktail hour is at 9am.  Another individual may be prescribed painkillers or anxiety medication, like Vicodin or Xanax, and become addicted because negative feelings don’t feel so bad with them.  These are just two examples of how senior substance abuse can start.

Addiction survivors are entering their senior years, and many of them are going back to alcohol and other drugs.  The substance use may not be very different from past senior generations, but the stigma of being drunk or high is not as prevalent with the Baby Boomers.  On one hand, this means that recreational drugs, like cocaine and crystal meth, are sometimes abused.  And on the other hand, family members might feel at ease discussing the need for alcohol or drug detox with this group.

Tarzana Treatment Centers provides addiction and mental health treatment under Medicare coverage. We know what other problems to look for when addiction is presented as a primary problem with seniors.  And we can usually treat all of them under one roof.  We want to help make the golden years special and not filled with problems.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles provides a full array of health care services including adult and youth alcohol and drug treatment.  We specialize in treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, and have two primary medical care clinics in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley.  If you or a loved one needs help with alcohol dependencedrug addiction, or co-occurring mental health disorders, please call us now at 888-777-8565 or contact us here.

CalWORKs Covers Alcohol and Drug Detox

by James Heller 8. June 2012 08:45
When family life is disrupted by alcohol and drug use, the entire household suffers.  Substance abuse leads to financial, legal, and relationship problems.  If these problems become unmanageable for families in California, CalWORKs is available to help them get back on their feet.  This program includes benefits to help people stop abusing alcohol and drugs, including payment for medical detoxification.

Tarzana Treatment Centers provides these services for CalWORKs.  The admission process is simple if you already receive CalWORKs benefits, and we can help you enroll if you don’t.  During the detox program, our addiction counselors and other staff will help you to plan your aftercare options.  You will discover what keeps you in the cycle of substance use, and learn how to repair your family.

Our goal is to help you find that clean and sober life you dream of.  The first step is to call us and start the admission process.  There is no reason to delay your recovery.

One of the greatest rewards is to see families heal, knowing that the children have a better life ahead of them.

Methadone Maintenance and Other MAT Options

by James Heller 9. September 2010 10:49
Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles offers several options for those seeking recovery from opiate dependenceMethadone Maintenance is a popular method that we offer for qualified individuals, as it has been successfully used for decades.  We also provide Buprenorphine Maintenance and a 21 Day Outpatient Detox for those seeking alternate methods of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

Methadone Maintenance has proven to be a safe method of harm reduction therapy for individuals suffering from opiate addictions that can’t seem to maintain abstinence.  It gives them the opportunity to re-enter society and the workforce, and stop abusing heroin and a variety of prescription drugs.  Our program does not simply medicate patients, though.  We also provide counseling services so our clients can address the core issues of their addictions.

The term Medication Assisted Treatment covers methods of recovery that seek harm reduction or abstinence.  Tarzana Treatment Centers recognizes that while opiate addicts suffer the same disease, they don’t all find recovery in the same manner.  So we provide Buprenorphine Maintenance for those who don’t feel comfortable with Methadone as the medication to ease their opiate cravings.

For those seeking abstinence, we provide a 21 Day Outpatient Detox that includes Outpatient Addiction Counseling Treatment.  This is a fine program for individuals who suffer from co-occurring mental health disorders that don’t feel comfortable in a residential environment.  It is also suitable for those who are still employed and have family obligations.  After successful detoxification, we can provide Naltrexone to qualified patients to reduce opiate cravings that may cause relapse.

Subutex Maintenance Information

by James Heller 8. September 2010 12:18

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles recognizes that while opiate addicts suffer the same disease, they don’t all find recovery in the same manner.  So we provide Subutex Maintenance for those who don’t feel comfortable with Methadone as the medication to ease their opiate cravings.  These harm reduction strategies are similar forms of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

Subutex is buprenorphine, an opioid used primarily to treat heroin, prescription drug, and other opiate addictions.  It can be used both for medical detoxification, and for harm reduction treatment in the form of Subutex Maintenance.  And at Tarzana Treatment Centers, all of our Subutex patients receive addiction counseling in the course of their treatment.  This greatly enhances their chances for long-term recovery from opiate dependence.

Outpatient Opiate Detox Information

by James Heller 8. September 2010 08:05

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles offers inpatient and outpatient opiate detox programs. Medical detoxification plays a critical role in the journey to abstinence for those suffering from opiate dependence.  Medication is used to minimize opiate withdrawal symptoms.  Doses are tapered down to provide a safe detox with minimum discomfort.  Our inpatient detox services are recommended for those suffering from acute heroin, prescription drug, and other opiate addiction.

We also provide a 21 Day Outpatient Detox that includes Outpatient addiction counseling treatment.  This is a fine program for individuals who suffer from co-occurring mental health disorders that don’t feel comfortable in a residential environment.  It is also suitable for those who are still employed and have family obligations.

Technology in Alcohol and Drug Treatment - Digital Signatures

by James Heller 21. April 2010 07:50
After years of suffering, and finally making the decision to enter alcohol and drug treatment, the last thing alcoholics and drug addicts want to do is wait.  Forms need to be completed, printed and signed, and all of that paper used can’t be good for the environment.  Digital signatures address both of these issues.

When alcohol and drug treatment centers stay current with technology in health care, the main goal is to improve patient outcomes.  Any new technology aims to provide better security, efficiency in treatment, and the ability to store and share information between staff professionals.  But even with efficient systems in place, paperwork can seem overwhelming to patients being admitted to treatment.

Many individuals entering alcohol and drug treatment require medical detoxification to minimize withdrawals.  The decision to enter treatment may have taken months, partially out of fear over alcohol, heroin, or prescription drug withdrawals.  Once they enter the doors of a facility, with no access to their drugs of choice, that fear makes every minute seem like an hour.

Suddenly, they are faced with a stack of paperwork that needs to be read and signed.  Before they are halfway through the stack, physical signs of withdrawal may begin to appear.  No matter how quickly an admissions counselor wants to proceed, this work needs to be done to ensure patient security and proper treatment.

Paper use is a problem in this process, as well.  If two professionals need to see a form at the same time, it means that copies need to be made.  Most of those copies are shredded after use.  Digital creation and storage of many forms minimizes waste, but there are still some that need patient signatures.  This still means that paper is printed, copied and shredded over and over again.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles has addressed this issue by incorporating digital signature capturing into the admissions and counseling process.  Patients can now proceed through the admissions process without waiting for forms to print.  They can simply sign them using a digital signature pad during the admission interview process, effectively cutting the admission time in half.

When patients complete the admissions process, they are walked into a treatment unit with minimal paperwork.  This not only saves paperwork, but also provides better security for patients.  This is because their detailed information is only available on a secure network computer, accessible only to treatment staff.  It also means that two professionals can look at the same information simultaneously, without needing to make copies.

Our goal is to be completely paperless as a health care organization.  The ability to capture digital signatures provided a bridge over a big chasm that prevented us from reaching that goal.  This took some time to accomplish, but it was worth it considering that we made great leaps toward two of our goals.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles uses the latest technology to provide effective alcohol and drug treatment.  We specialize in treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, and have two primary medical care clinics in the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley.  If you or a loved one needs help with alcohol dependence, drug addiction, or co-occurring mental health disorders, please call us now at 888-777-8565 or contact us here.

Medication Assisted Treatment Options

by James Heller 12. April 2010 14:07

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a safe and effective method for alcohol and narcotic withdrawal and maintenance.  There is ample evidence suggesting that harm reduction strategies should be more widely available to those suffering from alcohol dependence and drug addictionTarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles has taken note of these facts, and offers several medication assisted treatment options.

Traditional alcohol and drug treatment services help many individuals to begin a life in recovery and improve their lives.  MAT is utilized in medical detoxification at the start of treatment to minimize withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and other drugs.  This process is important since patients must be medically stable before beginning the process of recovery.

For some, though, relapse commonly follows traditional treatment.  This is generally due to alcohol cravings and opiate cravings that vary greatly from patient to patient.  Medications like Suboxone, Vivitrol, and Methadone help to minimize cravings so these individuals may begin the process of recovery, medically stable and in a receptive state of mind.
