Methadone Detox

It is important to detox from methadone addiction and methadone abuse as soon as possible. Medical detoxification and drug treatment is the safest and most comfortable means of breaking the methadone addiction chain. Withdrawal symptoms and emotional changes that accompany drug detox make quitting "cold turkey" typically unsuccessful.

Methadone Withdrawals

Withdrawal symptoms are severe and include fever, runny nose, tremors, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Withdrawal from methadone itself is not dangerous. However, it is very painful and can lead a methadone addict back to the comfort of the drug.

Medical detoxification in a residential drug treatment facility offers a safe environment for the addict to detox. Systematically withdrawing a patient from methadone while under medical supervision helps to limit withdrawal symptoms. Medical staff can also monitor the patient during the ups and downs of drug detox, and adjust dosages accordingly.

Emotional Changes

Emotional issues are usually at the heart of any drug addiction problem. The addict's drug of choice numbs emotional pain the same as it does for the physical. If these issues are not addressed, the addict is likely to return to methadone, or maybe a different drug.

Counseling and mental health staff members in a medical drug detox setting address emotional issues that surround drug addiction, and assist in aftercare plans. This is very important to keep the patient motivated for recovery when emotions begin to surface during drug detox.

Tarzana Treatment Centers is the only drug treatment facility in Southern California that uses methadone to detox patients from methadone by the process of systematic withdrawal. The inpatient methadone detox program assures a safe, medically supervised withdrawal from methadone along with psychological and addiction counseling services.
