Cravings are among the most powerful triggers faced by anyone completing opiate detox. The combined force of a psychological need for the drug and chemical reactions in the addict brain makes them at least a distraction and, at worst, a cause for relapse. Whether drug cravings are mild or strong, reduction of them is a good aid to relapse prevention in early recovery.
Tarzana Treatment Centers provides Vivitrol injections for eligible alcohol and drug treatment patients. We have been doing this for several years, and are very pleased with the results so far. Since the beginning, we have interviewed our Vivitrol treatment patients who had been in and out of rehab facilities. Almost all of them reported that the reduced cravings improved their treatment experience and it has lengthened recovery times.
To the unfamiliar, cravings may not seem so threatening. After all, if your mouth waters for a bag of french fries, you can probably enjoy the feeling and forget about it after a few seconds. Addiction doesn’t allow the forgetting, though, and opiate cravings don’t go away easily. Imagine waking up with a craving for french fries and having it with you all day long, knowing that if you eat one fry you won’t be able to stop eating more of them.
Opiate addicts often complete medical detoxification and will go straight to their dealers or doctors to satisfy cravings. Even if they have a safe place to go for treatment, and know very well that they are making a mistake, they get drawn back into the dark world of addiction. The obsession to “feel better” is just too great.
Monthly Vivitrol injections during the first months of recovery free the mind to receive drug treatment and work on core issues. More clean time means more life issues get resolved. So, even if a relapse occurs, the road back to recovery becomes much shorter and recovery times extend. As clean time accumulates, the sense of accomplishment also helps to encourage remaining in recovery. All of this means that Vivitrol is a solution for a great threat to a drug addict’s recovery.
Vivitrol is covered by Medicare and Medi-Cal. So please call even if you are concerned about funding.
Telemedicine services are also available with online medical care, online mental health treatment, and online alcohol and drug treatment.

Heroin is in a special class of drugs that are highly addictive and very difficult to quit using. Opiates and opioids can spark an addiction with just one use, due to cravings that make the user want more. So an effort to reduce opiate cravings in early recovery makes sense to boost chances of long-term abstinence.
Tarzana Treatment Centers provides Vivitrol for heroin and other opiate craving reduction. Upon successful completion of our medical detoxification program, patients can begin Vivitrol treatment. Vivitrol is Naltrexone in the form of a monthly injection. You don’t need to think about how to reduce opiate cravings anymore, and the treatment is convenient.
The disease of addiction includes psycho-social symptoms that are commonly at the core of an individual’s substance use. Proper treatment of these issues can take some time, so counseling is always recommended after medical detoxification. It is very important for patients to remain as focused as possible on treatment so they can begin to see the benefits of recovery.
Heroin creates a stronger craving than most prescription pain killers, which have varying effects depending on the drug and person. Even so, any opiate craving is a distraction to treatment and can easily send a newly recovering person to relapse. With Vivitrol, patients can explore the issues that make them abuse heroin and painkillers in a more effective mindset. They are less likely to leave treatment early, and more likely to remain drug free for a longer period of time.
Please contact us today even if you question your ability to afford treatment. Tarzana Treatment Centers accepts Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other health care assistance programs.
Telemedicine services are also available with online medical care, online mental health treatment, and online alcohol and drug treatment.

What is Vivitrol?
Vivitrol is a monthly injection of Naltrexone that is FDA approved for alcohol and opiate craving reduction. This treatment reduces your risk of relapse by minimizing one of the major triggers that can lead you back to drinking or using drugs. By clearing the mind of cravings, Vivitrol enables you to focus on treatment and the core issues you need to process. All of this enhances your chance to achieve long-term recovery.
How much does Vivitrol cost?
The best answer to this is: Call us to find out.
As is the case with many medications, it is difficult to provide a solid price in a blog article. How much you pay for Vivitrol at Tarzana Treatment Centers depends on whether you have health care coverage and from which funding source. If you search websites for a price you will see prices varying by over $1000, which does you no good.
Tarzana Treatment Centers accepts Medicare and Medi-Cal for Vivitrol treatment, and other public health programs may pay for it. Also, there are rebate programs that come and go, so it would be irresponsible to publish a set price for individuals who opt to pay cash for the treatment.
What are the side effects of Vivitrol?
The most up-to-date list of side effects can be found on the Home page of the Vivitrol website at http://www.vivitrol.com. It is important for you and your primary care physician to know these facts because, like many helpful medications, you may not be in a position to take Vivitrol.
At Tarzana Treatment Centers, no patients have suffered severe side effects. Minor injection site pain is often reported, along with other minor side effects. They also report that these effects dissipate in a day or two. We’ve also had patients who report no negative side effects at all. It needs to be noted that the great majority of patients starting Vivitrol treatment get their first injection following medical detoxification. So the body is going through changes that can cause pangs of one form or another anyway.

The various aspects of alcoholism and opiate addiction happen faster for women. Because of this, extra factors need to be considered when providing treatment for women, especially when children are involved. Many of these factors can be minimized by including Vivitrol in alcohol and drug treatment for women.
The female human body processes alcohol and opiates differently than the male counterpart. It takes lower quantities and less time for intoxication to occur, withdrawals appear faster and stronger, and dependence and “hitting bottom” appear sooner to the first use. Social factors, coupled with alcohol or opiate cravings, can also make resisting relapse much more difficult.
Alcohol and opiate cravings are major relapse triggers for both men and women suffering addiction. But women commonly face social situations that involve peer pressure, predators, and even violence that invite relapse. While these situations and other forms of stress may be difficult to avoid, craving reduction can reduce the chance that a relapse will occur.
Tarzana Treatment Centers provides Vivitrol for alcohol and opiate craving reduction. Alcoholics, heroin, and prescription painkiller addicts relapse in large part due to cravings. By removing this trigger, women can better focus on core issues that keep them drinking or using drugs. It also takes away the added pressure to drink or use in social situations.

Alcoholism and drug addiction haven’t changed over time, and treatment still requires a certain level of patient motivation for recovery. That motivation is the key to cultivating the deep-seeded desire to quit using alcohol or other drugs. Forward thinking facilities, like Tarzana Treatment Centers, are using medications and technology to encourage patients to stay motivated.
When individuals make the decision to enter alcohol and drug treatment, motivation is at its highest level. Whether the reason is legal, financial, or relationship, doesn’t matter. It is only important to validate the motivation and encourage treatment. From the moment of the decision, the addicted mind will begin to chip away at the motivation for recovery.
One way to slow the demotivation is to offer solutions to concerns that are often stated during the treatment admission process. Previously failed attempts at recovery can cause pessimistic feelings. Heavy work schedules and family needs can be a barrier to aftercare discussions. Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT) can bring optimism, and telehealth can break down barriers.
Alcohol and opiate cravings are major causes of relapse. Tarzana Treatment Centers is a Vivitrol treatment provider. Vivitrol reduces alcohol and opiate cravings, taking away the distraction that can hinder or put a halt to treatment. Methadone Maintenance is also available for qualified opioid addicts who have struggled with multiple relapses. MAT offers hope to individuals who are motivated for recovery, and have a simultaneous “what’s the use?” feeling.
Sometimes the timing of recovery motivation conflicts with work or family obligations, or transportation may be an issue. Instead of labeling this as an “excuse”, Tarzana Treatment Centers offers telehealth services. Using secure video conference technology, you can attend counseling sessions from your home or office. Telehealth is proving to be just as effective as face-to-face outpatient treatment.
When your loved one tells you they need help, don’t delay. Please call us immediately, and we will help.

Motivation for recovery can change in an instant for alcoholics and opiate addicts. They’ll say they want Vivitrol treatment to reduce cravings and help them focus on treatment. The addict brain then does everything it can to change that decision. Because of this, Tarzana Treatment Centers makes every effort to speed the process from decision to Vivitrol injection.

Patients must be assessed for Vivitrol treatment by qualified medical personnel. Tarzana Treatment Centers’ alcohol and drug treatment program has licensed medical professionals on staff daily. This minimizes the time between decision and assessment. Every step like this toward getting the actual injection helps a patient to resist thoughts suggesting to not go through with the decision.
Vivitrol is available by prescription only, which is the next step toward injection. Our daily staff of medical personnel includes licensed prescribers. This minimizes another possible waiting period, and may even eliminate it if the assessor and prescriber is the same person. The only step left is to receive the Vivitrol injection, and we keep a stock ready for new patients.
Collaboration between providers is easy at Tarzana Treatment Centers because they all work in the same facility and use the same software to track patient care. Nobody can promise that you will get a Vivitrol injection the same day you make the decision, but we make it possible.

Tarzana Treatment Centers and Vivitrol were featured on the Madeleine Brand Show on KPCC Public Radio. You can read about the topic and listen to the segment at this link:
At some point, every alcoholic and opiate ( heroin, pain killers) addict has a desire to quit drinking or using drugs. Most of them don’t know how to get help or that they can get addiction treatment at low or no cost, leading to a feeling of hopelessness. If that desire to quit passes without getting help, they can wind up in a downward spiral and eventually lose everything. The addiction can take a strong hold on them. If they find their way to a traditional detox-to-aftercare treatment program, it may require Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).
When individuals have a difficult time with relapse after alcohol or opiate detox, recovery can seem out of reach. Some will repeatedly enter detox treatment, with a serious desire to recover from alcohol dependence or drug addiction. Alcohol and opiate cravings are a major trigger for relapse, and can strike both during and after detox. For the individuals we’re describing in this article, cravings are also a major distraction during treatment. So they rarely achieve long-term recovery.
We are committed to the promotion of Vivitrol treatment because we have witnessed the positive results for so many of these patients. Several individuals who had been to detox more than five times have now been sober during Vivitrol treatment for more than 6 months at a time. That is a big achievement for this group. Every sober moment they get in treatment will provide them with tools to stay sober. Relapse may not be a thing of the past in these cases, but recovery is finally in reach.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles is thrilled at the news that the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Vivitrol for use in opioid addiction treatment. The evidence was clear to us that Vivitrol reduced opiate cravings, but the FDA went one step further in approving it for the “prevention of relapse to opioid dependence.” This means that we can finally say what we’ve also known for a long time; Vivitrol prevents relapse.
Tarzana Treatment Centers offers Vivitrol for alcohol treatment and opiate treatment as part of our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. It is a Naltrexone injection taken monthly that reduces alcohol cravings and opiate cravings. This allows individuals in recovery to focus on addiction treatment, and offers a better chance at long-term recovery. Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles offers several options for those seeking recovery from opiate dependence. Methadone Maintenance is a popular method that we offer for qualified individuals, as it has been successfully used for decades. We also provide Buprenorphine Maintenance and a 21 Day Outpatient Detox for those seeking alternate methods of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).
Methadone Maintenance has proven to be a safe method of harm reduction therapy for individuals suffering from opiate addictions that can’t seem to maintain abstinence. It gives them the opportunity to re-enter society and the workforce, and stop abusing heroin and a variety of prescription drugs. Our program does not simply medicate patients, though. We also provide counseling services so our clients can address the core issues of their addictions.
The term Medication Assisted Treatment covers methods of recovery that seek harm reduction or abstinence. Tarzana Treatment Centers recognizes that while opiate addicts suffer the same disease, they don’t all find recovery in the same manner. So we provide Buprenorphine Maintenance for those who don’t feel comfortable with Methadone as the medication to ease their opiate cravings.
For those seeking abstinence, we provide a 21 Day Outpatient Detox that includes Outpatient Addiction Counseling Treatment. This is a fine program for individuals who suffer from co-occurring mental health disorders that don’t feel comfortable in a residential environment. It is also suitable for those who are still employed and have family obligations. After successful detoxification, we can provide Naltrexone to qualified patients to reduce opiate cravings that may cause relapse.
If you would like more information about Methadone Maintenance or any of our MAT programs, please contact us by phone or email using the information below:
